StartFragmentMy love for everything lavender started out very much by accident after I bought my first home with a quaint yard attached. I began to create a garden space forthright. I planted rosemary, sage and two lavender plants to start. I watched those tiny plants develop into full-grown adult plants in less than a few years and now 20 years later I still have them plus a handful more in my garden! The most fascinating part while watching those beautiful purple plants bloom each season was the amazing amount of bees that would fly to them all summer long. Back then we lived in inner-city Portland and you wouldn’t believe it now, but 100’s of bees traveled from afar to help diligently pollinate them. Sadly, a decade later I noticed the bees slowly becoming less and less. Once where there were a hundred bees per day became 20-30 to 12-15 a day to visit the lavender. We moved to the country and one year on a Sunday afternoon drive I stumbled into a lavender festival being held by a local farm. It was upon first glance visiting the farm I realized how much I loved lavender and the bees. You could hear them humming what sounds like a faint melody in unison from all around and everywhere you looked there were bees pollinating the lavender. I felt so much joy in my heart knowing that the bees were going to be okay or at least my hope for them was restored and hence my true love recognized. I vowed to plant as many lavender plants as I could to help the bee population and habitat grow stronger and to keep my plants pesticide free. The aromatic smell of lavender hypnotized me in a sense and now I harvest it's sweetness every fall after I feel the bees have had their fill. This allows me to be able to create such magical goodness with their petals for your heart, eyes and tummy to feast upon!EndFragment
